Key Project Information
Cleaning Works on the Head and Tail Pulleys of the Belt Conveyor Branches in the Standard Equipment at Amyntaio Mine
Brief Description of the Scope
The project involves cleaning works on the head and tail pulleys of the belt conveyor branches in the standard equipment at Amyntaio Mine for the years 2015 – 2018.
The objective is to ensure seamless operation of the belt conveyors and extension of their service life. Furthermore, cleaning also aims to eliminate point charges and restore alignment, to avoid increased wear and tear of the rubber lining and drive rollers.
Belt Conveyor Cleaning & Maintenance
Continuous-operation opencast mining is applied extensively to lignite deposits of great horizontal spread in the Prefectures of Kozani and Florina. A primary feature of this method is the continuous excavation, transport and dumping equipment used.
To ensure the proper operation of the belt conveyors, they were serviced and cleaned of residual material deposits, and their alignment was checked and restored. Cleaning is accomplished with the use of special devices, metal and/or plastic scrapers.

History of the Mine
Operations at this mine began in 1987, and it includes the exploitation of the Amyntaio and Lakkia deposits. Mining at the Lakkia mine is carried out with conventional equipment. The Amyntaio mine has an annual lignite output of 6-8 Mt and meets the needs of the SES Amyntaio Filotas and the SES Meliti.
