History of the Mine
Operations commenced in 1971. The Kardia Field includes mining operations on the Northwestern Field – Ypsilanti and the exploitation of the Komanos Settlement Mine deposit. The KSM has an annual yield of 12-14 Mt. The exploitation of the deposit is necessary to ensure supply of the SES Kardia and SES Agios Dimitrios, as well as the new SES Ptolemaida 5. The villages of Pontokomi and Mavrodendri are the closest to the mine.
